Alhydran medical retention cream

I have been using this on a fairly new surgical scar, initially just around it as I’m quite sensitive to a lot of dressings, then as it healed on the scar itself. I love it, healed up the red rash from dressings quickly and made my skin look all soft and healthy. Only using a tiny bit as it’s expensive and I only got the 30ml tube, but a little goes a long way. Happy with it.

Didn’t work unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t made any difference to operation scarring rash as advertised. Not value for money for me.

Great cream!

I suffered from a burn on my face and the cream really helped to keep my skin moist. There is still a little redness, though it is getting better by the day. I also use it on a recent surgery scar and love how it softens my scar without making it greasy. Really great product and a little goes a long way. I also really appreciated receiving samples for other products in my package. I tried the silicon scar gel on my facial burn and it really seemed to help with redness and provide a layer of protection in the sun. I may try that product next time. Thanks so much for selling these high quality products!

How does ALHYDRAN work?

ALHYDRAN is a powerful, clinically tested scar removal cream available in New Zealand, formulated to hydrate, repair, and support healing for damaged or sensitive skin. ALHYDRAN penetrates deep into the skin, improves skin hydration and helps reduce disruption and skin problems.

A healthy skin barrier

Regulating hydration is one of the skin’s most important tools in protecting itself against harmful external influences. A healthy skin has a stable amount of water that leaves the body (TEWL). The upper skin layer consists of approximately 30% water – this level is necessary for optimal functioning of the skin.

ALHYDRAN scar cream range NZ

Who is ALHYDRAN suitable for?

ALHYDRAN is widely used in NZ hospitals, burns units and skin clinics as a medical-grade scar removal cream and barrier-repair moisturiser. It is recommended for:

  • Burn scar treatment (new and old burns)
  • Post-surgical scar care including orthopaedic, plastic and cosmetic surgery
  • Radiation-induced skin damage in radiotherapy patients
  • Acne scars and pigmentation marks
  • Eczema-prone or chronically dry skin
  • Itching, redness and tightness caused by a disrupted skin barrier where a medical moisturising cream is needed

Because the formula is non-irritating and deeply hydrating, many people use ALHYDRAN as their everyday medical moisturising cream, even when they are not actively treating a scar.

When the skin barrier is damaged

When the skin barrier is disrupted, the body loses an abnormally high volume of water through the skin. This lowers the natural water percentage in the epidermis and causes the barrier to become dysfunctional.

As a result, the skin struggles to heal and protect itself. Common symptoms include:

  • Severe itching or irritation
  • Redness or inflammation
  • Dry, tight or uncomfortable skin
  • Slower wound healing

When the barrier remains impaired, it can lead to unfavourable scar development, trigger eczema flare-ups and prolong overall healing. Restoring hydration and barrier function is essential for recovery.

ALHYDRAN scar cream specialises in scar treatment of burns and surgical scars and can support management of acne scars and other scar types.

This makes ALHYDRAN one of the most trusted scar creams in NZ for burns, surgery, radiation care and other skin injuries requiring deep hydration.

The hydrating effect of ALHYDRAN

ALHYDRAN has a double function, both necessary for repairing a disrupted skin barrier:

  • Optimal hydration of the epidermis
  • Skin barrier recovery

ALHYDRAN restores the moisture balance within 2 hours (scientifically proven), due to:

  • Powerful hydration
  • Moisture retention via gentle occlusion

The formula contains antioxidants to protect the skin against free radicals. Together with optimal hydration and occlusion, these effects help the disrupted skin barrier recover.

The risk of scarring is decreased, existing scars and symptoms such as itching are relieved, and peri-wound complications are reduced to promote optimal wound healing.

These benefits are why ALHYDRAN is often chosen over traditional silicone gels when a hydrating scar treatment or non-silicone scar cream is required.

ALHYDRAN ingredients

ALHYDRAN is a medical cream with a base of fresh Aloe Vera gel. The formula is designed to be highly moisturising yet gentle – suitable for damaged and vulnerable skin.

This combination makes ALHYDRAN perform effectively as both a moisturising scar cream and a medical skin repair cream.

Fresh Aloe Vera from Aruba

ALHYDRAN contains more than 45% Aloe Vera gel, the highest possible concentration. Aloe Vera is sourced from the world’s oldest plantation and processed immediately after harvesting to preserve active ingredients.

This high concentration of fresh, not powdered, Aloe Vera gives ALHYDRAN its powerful moisturising and skin-supportive properties.

Other active ingredients

The ALHYDRAN product line also contains high-end natural oils and antioxidants to support long-lasting moisturisation and skin recovery.

  • Vitamin E & Vitamin C
  • Antioxidants to help neutralise free radicals
  • Natural oils, like Jojoba oil, to support elasticity

ALHYDRAN makes the skin supple and elastic and is suitable for a wide range of skin types, including those with reduced elasticity. It does not stain and is easily washed off with water.

ALHYDRAN is particularly popular in New Zealand for supporting skin exposed to strong sun and environmental stressors.
